Greenwood Mississippi My Bed Is in a Small Town Pin
This town is big enough for all of us
Just like my Greenwood Mississippi Breathe pin, this one was also inspired by John Mellencamp's song "Small Town."
You can rest easy in a small town
This lyric, "My bed is in a small town," and the one used in my "Breathe" pin stood out to me the most in the song. I couldn't decide which to use, so I made two pins.
What's important about this line? It speaks to the conscious choice to live in a quiet space, and that space is where we feel safe enough to lay our heads down and rest.
I spent my childhood and part of my young adult life in Mississippi small towns. After finishing school I lived in larger metro areas including San Francisco. I can't say I don't miss some aspects of the Bay Area, but there are perks to small, less congested towns. For one, there's less risk of someone stealing your catalytic converter at 2 a.m.
Look up for inspiration
When I was growing up in Greenwood, especially during high school, the nights were lonely. But at the same time they were awesome. From my backyard I could see a panoramic expanse of sky, burning in streaks of red. Over each hour a deep blue swallowed the sky, and little stars twinkled in the cold darkness.
Because the song lyric is the main feature on this pin, I chose beautiful fonts and added minimal graphics to support the text. The words "Greenwood" and "Mississippi" match the style on my "Breathe" pin to tie the two together.
This pin has an iron base and uses nickel plating for the "Greenwood Mississippi" text, outer edge, and cresent moon. The pin's background is filled with blue enamel paint. The light blue stars and hero text were screen printed due to their size and detail.
As with all my Mississippi pins, this has butterfly clutches and two pin backs to keep them from rotating on your luggage, tote bag, or backpack. ❤︎
